Project description:

Title:
Specific interactions of lipids with protein transmembrane segments
Summary:
Membrane lipids not only serve as structural components of membranes but are also important modulators of protein function. Based on our observation of a specific protein-sphingolipid interaction that modulates the protein’s activity, we have identified by proteome-wide mapping approaches additional protein candidates specifically interacting with either sphingolipids or cholesterol. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the PhD student will be characterising structural and functional aspects of lipid interactions of a respective candidate protein that already went through a validation analysis. The project is supported by mass spectrometric analyses of lipids.
