Title:
Stem cell behaviour in the Drosophila testis
Summary:
The Lohmann lab (http://ilohmann-lab.org) works on elucidating the role of HOX transcription factors in defining cell fate using Drosophila as a model. We are located at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) at the University of Heidelberg, Germany and part of the collaborative research network SFB873 “Maintenance and Differentiation of Stem Cells in Development and Disease” (https://www.cos.uniheidelberg.
de/index.php/sfb873?l=_e).
We now seek for enthusiastic new colleagues to analyze the interplay between germline stem cells and their support cells under homeostatic and compromised cellular conditions. In particular, the project aims at identifying pathways monitoring genome integrity in stem cells and at uncovering the role of mitotic checkpoint components in monitoring asymmetric stem cell division in the male germline. The project builds on a wide array of advanced resources established in the Lohmann lab and will provide ample opportunity to implement and apply high-end techniques to investigate stem cells of the Drosophila male stem cell system at multiple scales.

The Heidelberg Molecular Life Science Community offers a vibrant stem cell research community, as well as state-of-the-art core facilities. You will have the opportunity to closely collaborate with highly recognized stem cell researchers of the SFB873 and beyond.
Personal qualifications:
Successful candidates will have experience in confocal microscopy, advanced immunohistochemistry and possibly in Drosophila genetics and molecular biology.
The ability to quickly integrate into an interdisciplinary team and work independently within an academic research environment is essential.
